The Next Level: A Solar 3D Printer that Uses Sand https://www.zzwl.me |
A European
artist, Markus Kayser, has done a fascinating thing: he has used a concept
similar to that of laser sintering used in some 3D printers to make shapes from
melted sand. His printer is powered mainly by two solar panels, placed on both
sides of the main body, and it uses a movable focal point that concentrates and
amplifies sunlight to an extent that it melts the sand, placed on the printing
area. Then all that is left for Kayser to do is move the printer this way and
that in accordance with the shape he wants to achieve, and add further layers
of sand. While of course this technology is far from the precision of 3D
printers using more conventional filaments, it certainly is yet another sign
that the boundaries of this particular technology are constantly being pushed
back. Who knows what the next day will bring.
