HP Inc, the hardware business of former HP, is hoping to bring into
the medical field a new virtual reality product called Zvr. Despite its
difficult-to-pronounce name, Zvr holds promise for diagnostics.
The set, developed in collaboration with medical imaging startup
EchoPixel, includes a 23.6-inch display that shows images taken by four
cameras that track the user’s head movements. These images are turned
into 3D images via a pair of special glasses and can be moved around and
manipulated by the user via a stylus.
In other words, Zvr allows doctors to see in 3D while examining image
data from scans, typically appearing in 2D and hence more difficult to
make sense of. The 3D set can help, for example, the identification of
polyps, which are abnormal, though not always dangerous, tissue growths
in various organs.
