RICOH TO CLOSE FOUR OFFICES https://www.etwatches.com

In order to cut expense and improve business performance, Ricoh has planned to close or relocate at least four offices in the Kanto region.

According to TonerNews, the plan is said to implement by spring next year. As a result, about 3,000 workers, nearly 10% of its employees in Japan, will be transferred.

Among these four offices, the Saitama plant and an office in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, are subject to closure. In addition, the company will move its headquarters from Tokyo’s Ginza district to the Omori plant in Ota Ward.

As reported, research and development functions will be concentrated at the Ebina plant in Kanagawa Prefecture, while operations such as those related to information systems will be transferred to its plant in Tsuzuki Ward, Yokohama.

The plan is intended to cut expenses — mainly office rent and maintenance costs — by ¥2 billion to ¥3 billion.

The OEM reported a consolidated net sales of approximately JPY ¥2.21 trillion for the year ending in March 2016, with a declining profits due to intense price competition.
